Funny conversation

Ben: I have noticed when you feed the baby if you talk to him he takes more.

Sarah: I know but I run out of things to talk about.

Ben: last night I told him about our trip home we are planning for Christmas.

Sarah: oh what did the baby say?

!Warning music theory content!

Sarah and I decided to just play music on Monday night for FHE.  It was fun to sit back down at the piano and just play around.  In the past I was teaching Sarah some basic music theory, specifically interval and chord identification, and basic analysis.  Most of the time I really enjoy this, however it general leads into a conversation about how from sarahs perspective the music theory rules are this or that... and really not that important, and from my perspective using the rule and knowing when to brake them is what is important.  We are really on the same side, just see things different.  Anywho back to the story.  Because of this I was playing and decided to see what I could come up with in a new key that I don't really play in.  In the more common keys my hands just always seem to find the same chords, but in new keys there can be lots of exploring.  Well I chose the key of F# major (or Gb major for you pessimists) and started with the tonic (an F# Major chord).

And over time these are the chords we came up with:

 F#major         to          e# minor         to             d# minor

However we then had a fair bit of discussion about where the next chord should go and we both landed on the B Major chord.  So when you put that in therms of theory we get a....wait for it......a

I        iii (in our case iii6)       vi       IV    back to     I

Which just happens to be a very common theory progression.  Now that your all asleep I will let you judge for yourself,   Listen here to the chord progression.  I think the theory makes it sound good, Sarah thinks it sounds good because it does.  (I do note I may be making her case in a slightly understated manner).

How to know your wife is pregnant...

In case you were wondering I thought I would show you a few ways to know if your wife is pregnant....

When you see note like this, it must mean she cannot get cool and you should leave the ac on, even though its not that hot...

When you buy tums in bulk, It is much cheaper than getting them in those small day use packages, you know the ones with only like 200 tablets...

Your wife has a new place to put her ice cream bowl, and she likes ice cream...
Your wife starts collecting clothes that are way too small for you...

Now all you have do pick the name...
I guess that all for now... Thanks dear for growing my offspring.

hey no cow tipping

On wednesday of this week I was just leaving the clinic in benton city to head to the other clinic I manage in prosser when I saw a really odd site.  A cow was standing on the side of the road, I slowed thinking that some had gotten loose, however I soon saw it an overturned semi full of cows.  I saw the semi driver, and several cows running around.  I pulled over and soon saw three cows in the east bound lanes and realized I better get them before the get hit.  I herded them back over to the other side of the road where there was more room and got them to join the other cows standing there in shock.  After emergency crews arrived I took off, but hey who new I could rustle cattle on my way to work?  Here the rest of the storie

"my mother thats who i need"

I thought with the upcoming holiday, I would write and share a few reasons why I think I have one of the best mothers in the world. Now in the effort of fully disclose I might have a small bias.
First the funny part...My mother is the lady who I would go to lunch with and always watch guys hit on here. We went skiing once and the guy at the lift said I had one foxy lady with me. She has worked hard to stay young, but I think she has found the fountain of youth, all you need is 8 year old running around...  The picture above is my mother at 16 as a queen of the dance.

My mother is one of those people who can just sit in the grass and and enjoy a day, but not one to shy away from getting her boots dirty...

She is a mother who always knew what to do, my guess is she did make a mistake once but it was on my sister...she was the first born child ...  but I am pretty sure it was just one mistake...
My mom is also a great shopper.  She was able to buy a magic refrigerator.  If you look in it three times in between looking in the cupboard food magically appears.  Its amazing.
I just want my mom to know what a great person she is, and tell her thanks for sacrificing everything for her children.  I am so grateful.  The last part I want to share is an experience I had on my mission.  I had been out about 3 months and was having a rather tough time learning spanish.  It was a particularly tough day we went on exchanges and I ended up with a mexican from the ward that spoke no english and I was supposed to go see this family, however I could not even give directions to get there and he didn't know where the address was.  Eventually we go there and watch a movie about finding faith, and then we left.  I felt useless, all I could do is press play on a vcr.  So when I cam home that night I had a letter in the mail box and it was from none other than my mom.  She wrote the same letter to all of her children where she shared her testimony of Christ and told us all to have faith and it would work out.  She offered each of words of encouragement in our current endeavors.  This letter boasted my spirit and gave me the strength to keep going.

Thanks Mom for all that you do!

On a last and final note, I found a site that help me calculate a monetary repayment for the labor it took to birth me.  So here it is...

Here is another fond memory.

Love you Mom, happy mothers day.

Have you ever seen this self?  They are like 400 dollars and really don't hold that much for the cost.  So I said to myself I could make one that would hold more and be cheaper.  So here are some pictures of that.

Sarah was a big help on day on of this project.  You can see she learned how to use the Chop saw.  The next picture sows the beginning of the back frame.

Here you can see the first self completed.
And the drop down self from above, after all you do want a rotating design, so you can put new food in the back
Here the self's keep climbing up
Here is the last self being put on.
Here is the completed shelves, we emptied our whole food storage on the selves and found out there is still a ton of space.  Total cost of the project was just under 150.
I has some left over wood so I made a self under the hanging shelves I previously made.  It may look like I am collecting cardboard, but we know will likely move again and there is no sense in throwing it away, I just wanted it out of the ways so I built the hanging shelf. You can see I just need to finish organizing and we will be good to go.

Some see a foot rest others a vacume

I want to tell the story of the traveling recliner.  While growing up we had the opportunity to live with my paternal grandparents while our new house was being built.  It was really cramped, 6 of us in a basement with two rooms.  So my parents were in one and us children were in the other.  I have to say I really enjoyed the time living there, I remember my sisters almost in tears when my parents told us it was time to move out.  This is all side information back to the real story.  I am the happy owner of an old 1970's chair and foot rest, its a cool orange!

I really like, Sarah thinks it ugly...  So this rocker and foot stool ended up in the my parents basement as my Grandma moved to UT.  When I move to Washington I was given the honor to be the owner.  I think what Sarah doesn't understand about this chair and foot stool as its amazing abilities to save time.  One of its great skills is vacuuming. In the basement you see we had golden shag carpet, which on occasion my sister had to vacuum.  They found that if you flipped the foot stool ups side down you could drag it over the carpet, and there you had it all the shag laid in the same direction and you a perfectly vacuumed floor,  good enough even to fool Mom.
Now I don't want to give away all the super powers of this chair and foot stool, because then someone might still it  (and then I would have to go it back from good will).  So you will just have to wonder about the rest....
